A male youth is in custody following an incident at Ashley Youth Detention Centre tonight.

Police responded to a report of a youth allegedly escaping custody at the centre near Deloraine about 7.15pm.

Police quickly responded and located the youth hiding in bushes nearby a short time later.

Investigations into the incident are underway.
